backing up

how come i can copy files to a back up folder i created in my documents and then copy and paste onto a re-writer disc but can not back up directly to the disc in the drive?

i use xp home sp2
i dont understand writing software?

 

You may be using XP to write data (files) to the CD. You should use explorer.exe in which you can drag and drop them to the CD. XP will make a list of the files and prompt you to write them.

You can also purchase CD writing software (= programs) that has many other capabilities.
