Wish to make an exact backup of current HD (XP home) to a second HD (slave) on same computer.

That way if 1st ever failed can be instantly up n running with nothing lost. Simply change the slave HD to the master drive.

Last looked into it about a year ago but now decided time todo IT.
With all the constant updates n downloads it'd be REAL time consuming to start from scratch. Already have the 2nd drive up n running.

Anyone know of a good backup program that works with XP that can be scheduled with task manager (or it's own scheduler) on a regular basis??

I prefer doing manual backups. I use Norton Ghost 2003. Works a treat. Either CDR's or CDRW's. I use RW's, just over 3 and do a fresh backup every couple of months using the same disks. Takes around 45mins to restore from the backups. It is important to prepare the system to save space and ensure (as much as possible anyway) a stable backup. Clean all Internet temp files, history etc, system temp files. Run a couple of Registry cleaners through and finally run the defragmenter. I sometimes run the sfc /scannow command from Start Run... to restore any overwritten system files as well.

For making cds Images, I use PowerQuest Drive Image 2002.

    For cloning I use Ghost.

Take a look at Karen's Replicator

I use this to back up my data drive to another physical drive each day and the Windows partition - to another physical drive each month. There is a built-in scheduler. (Freeware)
