I run Windows XP on Dell Dimension 3000. Have trouble backing up. Unable to figure out how to do so out of the Windows, so obtained an Iomega hotburn pro that plugs in to computer. This will back up my documents. But I am unable to figure out how to backup Quicken. When I click, it just opens Quicken.
Also, should I not back up programs? I have the original disks for many of them, so it should not be necessary?
    Thank you.
    A geezer

You can't back up programs from Windows unless you make a ghost image of the entire drive. Programs install to various parts of Windows, not just to Program Files. As long as you have the disks and the installation files for downloaded programs you can reinstall as and when necessary.

I use Quicken 2000 and back up to the ubiquitous floppy on a regular basis. Quicken itself also maintains a Backup folder with autobackup every 10th (?) time Quicken is closed and keeps the last 2 or so backups as well. I can't tell you exactly where that will be - probably in the Quicken folder in Program Files - as I have directed Quicken to place the backup on a drive which is automatically backed up every hour.

Did you have no joy with the native backup facility in XP? Start > Programs > Accessoiries > System Tools > Backup. Installed by default in Pro, needs to be installed in Home.
