background color on desktop items

    somehow, the background color of the items on my desktop was changed from transparent to a solid color, and I can't figure out how to change it back to transparent. It's bodering me so much, please help. Thanks

    Hi rockyita and welcome to the WindowsBBS.

    To fix your problem - Right click "My Computer" > click Properties > click Advanced > click the "Settings" button in the Performance area > scroll down and tag the box labeled "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop." > OK your way out.

    BYW, if you want to improve your computer's performance when browsing folders, untag ALL of the other boxes in that same area, leaving only the drop shadow box tagged.
