I do not mean to make this another antivirus poll like Arie created. I am curious as to who uses AVIRA FREE, and to how they feel it compares to avast.

to tell the truth they both are fine
Avast seems to be a bit more automatic with less control over what to do or not to do - it does not seem to give you as much options
    seems fine
Avast also has you register after a time period - even though it is free
AVG was my choice before - i had one virus a year or so ago that jumped from an infested computer i was working on - jumped to my main computer over the router - nothing of anything took the pest totally out
In the end it was free avg that removed the residual whatever of the pest
That being said - i am not happy at all with avg version 8 as compared to avg version 7 / 7.5 - they fooled around with success -AVG 8 is overly demanding and not nearly as effective, as it was before , in catching or removing viruses ( i am told this by professionals who do this for a living)
Secondly the threat of computer viruses seems to be horribly overblown in the minds of computer nubes. No matter what you tell them - repeatedly , in detail that spyware / malware / greyware / adware etc etc is the major concern by far and not computer viruses they still come back to the important concern of computer viruses , not opening attachments and which antivirus program is best .

    Very well said Visionof!

    I totally agree!

Both on Avast and Avira and especially with your statements on AVG.

    Also agree
These things run in cycles. Used to be Email was primary concentration of Virus/Malware entry and is still a good way to get infected. But now they have moved to the drive by Web Site as a vehicle.

As we move to concentrate on that, then they will switch back to more Viri and Email as a vehicle.
