    Hi Everyone,

I am having a problem with playing .avi files on Win Media Player 9. I download the file, then try to play it and the player says " opening file, then downloading codec, then error receiving codec, then the file plays with a screen saver instead of the video. The soundtracks are intact and audible, but no video. I've checked the box in the tools section that says default player for .avi extensions. I have no problem with .mpeg, .wav, or .mov files.
    Anyone else have this problem?

I appreciate any suggestions or help you all can offer. Otherwise I guess I'll just have to stick to mpeg's.

I've got a HP Brio w/ Celeron chip, 287 meg Ram, 20 gig hard drive, running Win98SE with IE6, WMP9 and a broadband connection.

    Thanks in advance!!

Avi movies can be in any mumber of formats, with any number of audio and video codecs. (At last count, over 200 video codec versions).
Anyhow, you need a codec to view the movie.
To find out WHAT codec, download GSpot. Load the avi into it, and it will tell you what you need.
Most of the usual codecs are included in "packs ", such as the Tsunai, Nimo, etc...however, the BEST codec pack by far, is the Kristal pack, from here: http://www.codec-download.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=47
Click on "To the wanted Download ".
