I'm looking for a good Avi Compressor. I have some famliy footage that is too big for my DVDs. I was hoping to crunch them down without losing any quality. Any recommendations are great! Thanks

Download Virtual Dub first. This is what you will use to control what is to happen; the codecs do the dirty work behind the scenes.

To compress the video without any loss of quality, you'll need the Huffyuv codec. In my experience, it is better at compressing fast than compressing well, so don't expect any miracles. But it's free.

You can also compress the audio without any loss of quality. You will need FLAC to do that.

Once you have made your compressed .avi, any computer you want to play it must have the same codecs (Huffyuv and FLAC, in this case). So if you want to send copies of the DVD to family or friends, you might want to include copies of the codecs (you don't need to send them Virtualdub). But as long as the codecs are installed, they can use any media player(s) they want to.
