What OS are you currently running and what do you want to do?
I would suggest following Evan Omo's methods for the Windows OS you are using.

    I'm running Windows 10 Home 64.
I just had to install AVG Free anti-virus to stop Antimalware keeping my processor at 60% on every boot and AVG suggested I try their tuneup prog.

Defender is your builtin AV provided in W10. You don't need AVG.
Malware differs from Virus and you would need Free Cyber Security & Anti-Malware Software to control malware.
Are you sure Malware is causing your CPU to run at 60% at boot up?

I am aware of the problems caused by malware thanks.
This problem was caused by the installed (with Windows) Antimalware Executive running full scans when the pc was in use, and could use between 40% and 100% of cpu load
causing a complete lockup. Task Manager refused to end the task.
A well reported problem and even MS propose answers. Unfortunately however for some reason I was unable to use the solution offered by MS using the task scheduler and searched on.
One suggestion was to install an antivirus which causes the antimalware executive to be disabled but leaving Windows Defender in operation.
This works and is why I have installed AVG but only the free av.

Running Defender scan while viewing this Thread, only shows an average of 16% CPU on this comp.
Antimalware Service Executable (Processes) is showing less than 1% CPU when scan is finished.
If you run AVG as your antivirus program - Defender shuts down automatically to prevent conflicts.

Well that at least proves that your machine does not have the same problem as mine, or the hundreds of others that have reported it.
This is happening on a clean install from a MS ISO on a new processor and motherboard. I have now started removing non-MS apps that have been installed but this will take
some time so I am starting with the easiest to remove and leaving all the adobe, plus others like Acronis etc until last. I would like to keep Defender in action but would be
prepared to use a proven anti-virus if necessary. It would have helped maybe if all the steps that MS suggest would appear in the Task Scheduler panels but they don't.

I would give it (the OS) time to settle down from the initial install before doing anything as in my experience with our home comps, the system operates smoothly after a time. (shutdowns and starts).
