    Hello Keith,

Did you uninstall the previous version?

If not, is it running? Sounds like AVG's service may be running.

Look in XP's services: Start > run and type services.msc and ok.

Look for a line that contains AVG and disable it: right click on the line and from the drop down menu by the startup type, disable and then reboot.

    Regards - Charles

i have deleted the previous version and nothing showing in services for avg. but something must be amiss because my norton security suite where it used to check on boot up now says server failed to initialise and i cant run the norton auto fix tool as the active x wont load even though i told the firewall to allow it, looks like i will have to re install the windows xp. but how do i clear my drive? or will it just overwrite.

    Hi Keith,

I'm confused, did you try to re install AVG with Norton running?
Before you do that, your problem may be Norton itself - try un installing it, re installing.

If Norton is not the problem and you want to do a OS re install, try a repair install first: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

On the same site, on the left, there is a reference on doing a clean OS install. You'll get instruction on formating (clearing) the drive prior to XP installing itself.

    Regards - Charles
