AVG Issues

I recently upgraded to AVG 8 from 7.5 and instantly had issues. No part of the program works. It updates and says it hasnt, it wont scan and nothing is active. I have tried to repair but still get the same problems. Trying to uninstall I get this message and it stops :

avg7rsxp.sys: stoping service

Any advice would be really appreciated.

 

Have you tried uninstalling both AVG 7 and AVG 8? If you can get either to uninstall it might allow you to uninstall the other, then start with a fresh install of 8

It might be necessary to open the interface and via the Tools>Advanced Settings menu, disable all protections, then try to uninstall.

Still no further with this. I tried to uninstall both 7 and 8 as suggested. Neither uninstallation finished. I restarted my machine and it did look like they had gone. I tried a new install of avg 8 and it never mentioned installing over avg7.5 so it looked like a fresh install.

Then when it got near the end it stopped installing and said :

avg7rsxp.sys: stoping service

In the nean time I have installed both avast and avira (at seperate times) and neither will do a complete scan of my c drive.

Further advice would really be appreciated.

I cant get avg to uninstall and I cant get any other virus scanners to work in my pc.

Please help

 

Hi glennk, have you tried uninstalling through Control Panel>Add & Remove Programs? If as noahdfear suggested AVG7.5 may still be shown and it will pay to remove earlier issues first. What I do is Download to Desktop ie. AVG8.0 - then Disconnect from Broadband and exit any other security systems then uninstall previous AVG. when complete it may require a restart - then open and install new version. Lol Neil.
