Folks at AVG Hq.s have failed to reply.:(

When trying to update receive error message, "proxy server connection failed ". Firewall is not the problem. Please advise. Thanks for your time.

AVG has functioned A-Okay for a year. Perhaps other users are having the same problem?

    Hello Lis,

Until somebody comes along that knows more:

I use AVG free on Vista - looking at the info options, have you looked at On line FAQ and getting help on line or if running XP, Help Topics?

I can't access Help Topics for AVG on Vista - apparently that's one area that AVG isn't Vista "ready ".

I'm using what was formally Ewido, now AVG AS - there is an optional proxy setting. Have you looked around for anything like that in the Control Center?

    Regards - Charles

Performed a pristine re-install. So far so good:) :) Shall we say, "case closed "?

When all else fails, re-install. Roger that.

Total Posts: 6,886 (3.69 posts per day) very impressive. Excellent work.
    Your helping many people.

Is there an alternative to a pristine re-install? Requires soooooo much, "seat time ".

    Have a Happy Easter Bunny:D

    Hi Lis,

    Thanks for the compliment :)

What you ought to start thinking about is drive imaging and image on a regular basis and treat it as any other backup.

A well known imaging program is Acronis - forum here http://www.wilderssecurity.com/index.php

As a preperation for this, also think about changing the way your hard drive is organized. To make imaging truely useful, the drive should be divided into a OS only partition and a data partition. You would only image the OS.

Doing this is also usefull when the OS has to be re installed or repaired, not touching the user data. You don't how many posts I've seen where the poster has to re install the OS and had no backup and couldn't backup because it was too late.

You sound though like one of my daughters who has reinstalling down to a science, reformats and reinstalls at the drop of hat. When I ask, why not use imaging, she just says she perfers doing it her way - a chip off the old block :D

    Regards - Charles
