Hello. I have AVG 6.0 on my XP home, IE 6, OE 6. I've had it for many months and am happy with it, no complaints. I've stayed virus free. I also go to TrendMicro and some other sites to do onsite virus scanning on a regular basis just to make sure my computer is clean. So far, no viruses.

Then to day in a CNET email newsletter, I read about Avast, a new free anti-virus program. It gets very good reviews, and I read some. So now I'm considering trying it to see if I like it and if it's better than AVG.

Does anyone out there have any preferences if you've tried both? And I need to know how to do a proper download. Do I need to uninstall AVG before I download Avast, or can I just disable it from running. I have WinPatrol, so I can do that. I've read that one shouldn't be using two or more AV programs at a time, that they can have compatibility issues. Although I do use both Spybot and Adaware (the free versions), and haven't had any problems. Any help or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks. Val

No first hand experience with Avast.

Disabling AVG should be enough. You just do not want two of the active at the same time.

Ad-aware and Spybot are a different sort of thing as anti-spyware apps. I run scans with both as do lots of others and no problems as a result.
