    Hi all,

On March 8th I installed Avast. I was very careful to un-check the boxes for any add-ons as I wanted just the program itself.

After installing, I noticed that Google Chrome was on my Desktop and that all my SeaMonkey Bookmarks on my Desktop had changed to open in Internet Explorer!

I Revo Uninstalled it, did a System Restore and everything was back to the way it was.

I reinstalled Avast (again, making sure that the add-ons were un-checked) but before I restarted, I checked the Settings and had to drill all the way down to "Trouble shooting" til I found a box that was un-checked that said: "Do not use Chrome as default browser ".

I put a tick in that box and everything was fine. However, when I went to Event Viewer, I saw a lot of "gupdate" (Google Updater) and Google related errors. I also found a folder in App Data for Google and a number of .json files and .js files "” all dated 3-8-12.

And, in the registry I found at least two dozen listings for Google and Google Chrome that weren't associated with programs.

So, has anyone else experienced this? And, is it safe to delete the Google folder from App Data and Chrome from the registry?

Hi jpChris, what it boils down to - READ the fine print.
I found by experience that it doesn't pay to click on Download/install until you have scanned the WHOLE page thoroughly.
Adobe is another that will sneak in Norton unless you uncheck the box.
In answer to your question - I would imagine that if you don't want any traces of Google Chrome in your system - remove them. Cheers Neil.

    Hi Neil,

I did read the fine print; and the EULA and everything else "” yet Google was installed anyway!

Oh, well, the question still remains as to whether this has happened to anyone else?

Nope. I unticked the boxes & nothing else was installed.
