Hi everyone, Two days ago I receceived notice that my Avast Free (basic) program located and confined CERCSR6.SYS and identified as a virus and put it in the Virus Chest. Although it may have, When I logged on to my home page "AOL ", I lost connectivity and couldn't reconnect to the internet - receiveing msg: "The DLL C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ASC\ASCUI.DLL is not a valid Windows image." When I tried to open any apps including Task Mgr and Avast, I receive msg "Not enough recources to initiate application ". I found that by changing my home page from AOL, I can surf the internet but, on 2 occassins, when I connected to AOL, from RCN page, after a while it came back and I lost connectivity again with all same effects. To get back, I have to reboot all over again. So far in this session, in my AOL account, I haven't been affected; keeping my fingers crossed. LOL. Can anyone help. I have Windows XP. By the way, When I opened to see the Avast Virus Chest, it states the virus was originally located in file "cercsr6.sys" at C:\Windows\system32\drivers. Again can anyone help me. I will greatly appreciated any assistance.

    Hi Broni,

I apologize for not getting back sooner but, I wasn't able to connect to the internet while I still had Avast. I tried as you suggested: I upadated the Avast files but, it didn't give me the option to restore from the Virus Chest. I was able to delete it but, while it didn't report cerscr6.sys as a virus again, the connection to the internet sessions were progressively getting shorter and shorter; I don't understand why but, it began to affect other tasks such as opening a search window would begin normally then begin to display blank icons with no texts. I eventually uninstalled Avast altogether and installed instead, AVG 2012 which reports no virus' found. I have since utilized CCleaner and haven't had any problems to date. Thanks again for your advise.
