I ran Windows Update, and when the scan for available updates was completed, I selected "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service pack 1." While it was downloading/installing, it stopped, and a message appeared saying the download failed, and to retry the installation. I did that, and the second attempt was successful (as message stated). The problem is, everytime I run Windows Update now, the same item is still listed as an available update, instead of it being removed from the list. Just to make sure, I reinstalled it, but even though it said the installation was successful, it still appeared on the available updates list.Is there any way to remove this item from the list now that it is installed?

    Thank you

Rick2U--Control Panel|Add/Remove|Windows ME Updates|Highlight the Update causing the problem|Remove. Now go back to Windows Update and reinstall. See if that helps.

    Hello Rick,

If jim's suggestion doesn't work, do you have a System Restore point a few days prior to the install attempt? Be aware that any installs - not just MS's - are going to be gone since that last SR point.

An alternative to the way you're doing MS updates:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp is the update catalog site. All the updates for ME are listed when you search WinME. Find your update(s) and download them the way you do for any software update. Download to a folder - click thru to the executable (.exe extension) to install.

    Regards - Charles
