I'm having problems with what I believe to be glitches in iexplore.exe and explorer.exe. The initial load from shut down often fails to load the desktop icons after it has loaded the background photograph and it sometimes takes 3reloads to get the full system up and running. Also, in that case, I have to force a shutdown uding the power switch. Windows shutdown hangs up at "Saving your settings "

IE8 also gives me grief, often ignoring favorites selections and picking up things from the lower level of the screen

My "System Restore" disk from eSystems is one of those "all or nothing" deals. The only way it can be used destroys all the data and software programs you have.

Does anyone have an old original Microsoft WinXP disk that I could either copy or buy that would let me re-install the elements I'm having grief from without stripping out all the stuff I want to keep?

I'm probably going to have to dump this old clunker sometime soon, but budget constrains say "not right now ". Finding $900 for a high zoot laptop isn't an option.

Have you checked for Malware/Spyware? Probably wouldn't hurt to go to the Malware section and do what is asked. That way you would know you are clean.

There is a method that will repair IE and Windows Explorer. Your laptop should have the setup files located on the drive. Go to Start\Run and enter in this command.
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
It will scan the system files for corruption, and replace them as necessary.
