I run Win XP SP2 Home edition. I've always had it set to receive automatic updates and it has been receiving them successfully until about 4 months ago.

One thing though, it always receives Windows Defender and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool updates and installs them sucessfully, but NOT the regular updates which are sent out by Microsoft the second Tuesday of every month!

I have previously explained this situation to Microsoft and someone sent me a long list of things to do to correct it, but the situation has not been resolved, so I still have to go and do the usual monthly updates manually.

Any help from you guys would be much appreciated. Thank you.

What happens when you manually go to the update site and attempt to update?

I would go to the site and click on Express (for Critical Updates), then if there are any Critical Updates (there are always some on the 2nd Tuesday of the month), they would appear and I would just click on Download, and they would be downloaded and installed, then you would usually be asked to click to Restart your PC.

After restarting, if you go into the site again you can see that the items were successfully installed, and in the Source column way over to the right it would indicate that it was a Microsoft Update. In the case of an automatic installation, it would indicate Automatic Update.
