I'm trying to uninstall my ATI 9600PRO video driver to a different version, and I am using the radeon driver uninstallation tool to remove everything.

When it boots up again XP automatically installs the 9600 driver, is there any way I can turn this feature off so I can manually install the video driver?

    thanks

I've found the easiest way to do that is to uninstall the drivers in Safe Mode. Usually, that will complete the uninstall without having to reboot since none of the drivers are loaded...and therefore in use...in Safe Mode.

Then, without rebooting, install the new drivers while in Safe Mode. It's worked for me a number of times. Your mileage, of course, may vary. ;)

    Hi guys!

That auto installation feature can be a real pain in the lower rear end of ones anatomy.

To install my scanner, I was supposed to install the software before connecting the device to the USB port. It went well and I ended up with the manufacturers software.

To install my printer, I was supposed to connect it to the USB port and then start the installation. However, XP beat me to it and I ended up with two "printers ".

I didn´t want that so, I unplugged the printer and Ghosted back to prior to the printer installation. Next, I started the installation with the printer disconnected and some time into the installation, when the printer couldn´t be found, it was asked for.
I connected the printer and before I had clicked "continue" (and I was quick about it), XP tried to intervene. However, when the ongoing installation was continued XP tossed in the towel ...... ...... !

There really should be an option to kill that plug-and-play thing because it´s not always a good thing.

    My two eurocents,
    Christer
