    When a user is loading, a message appears on the desktop,

    C:\Windows\System32\\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for runng MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

    Why am I getting this message and how do I stop It? :confused:
    Please HELP as I have tried the fix at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767&Product=winxp but this did not work. :confused: :confused:

    Copy the contents of your autoexec.nt file and paste it in your next post. There may be a clue therein that will point to the culprit.

    If autoexec.nt is trying to start when you boot the PC or when a user logs on, something is set wrong since XP will only try to use that file when you try to start an older program.

    We do need to see a copy though.

    BTW, you'll get that exact message if your autoexec.nt file is missing completely as opposed to badly corrupt. The normal fix is to recreate it but that is outlined in the MS link you followed and tried already. Perhaps try that again and be certain you end up with the files they ask you to create.

    The autoexec.nt file is located in C:\windows\system32 and the normal content of it is:

    Code:
    @echo off
        lh %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\mscdexnt.exe
        lh %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\redir
        lh %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\dosx
        SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 P330 T3
    You may see many other lines in it but they will be REM lines that are ignored by the system and do not need to be there.
