I got a virus that messed my browser settings untill I had to mess a bit with the registry.

The problem now is that the Autocomplete for the adress bar is only working for 1 particular url. If I press the "down" key on the adress bar I can see all the typed urls there, but as soon as I type any letter they all disapear (unless it's the first letter of the only url where it still works).

If I disable the autocomplete and enable it again, it still works only for the last url typed, untill it sticks again to just 1 of them forever.

Does anyone knows what I can do to make the autocomplete work for all my url history again?

PS: I have my history set for 15 days and I already tried changing this with no success.

    Thanks

Go to Tools - Internet Options - Content - AutoComplete.

    Is "Web Addresses" checked?

Go to Tools - Internet Options - Advanced.

Are "Use inline AutoComplete for Web addresses" and "Use inline AutoComplete in Windows Explorer" checked?

Actually the "Use inline AutoComplete" was disabled for some reason, but I still have the same problem after I enabled it.
    Thanks for your help, though.

    From an MS newsgroup post:-

    Please try the following suggestions.

    Suggestion 1:

Please clear forms and passwords information in the AutoComplete settings
    in Internet Explorer:

    1. Start Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    3. On the Content tab, click AutoComplete.
    4. Click Clear Forms, click Clear Passwords, and then click OK.

Make sure that you have enabled all the check boxes in this window.

    Suggestion 2:

If the problem still occurs, please empty the History and cache folders
used by Internet Explorer. To do so follow these steps:

    1. Open Internet Explorer, Click the Tools menu.
    2. Click Internet Options.
    3. Click Clear History in the History area.
    4. Click Yes in the dialog box that appears.
    5. Click Delete Files.
    6. Pick up a check near "Delete all offline contents. "
    7. Click OK in the dialog box that appears.

You could try the Internet Explorer Reapir Tool.

It depends on your OS. If you're running XP, see this, otherwise see this.

Well, I tried the repair tool and the reinstalation of IE, and none worked... I guess I'll have to live with this unless I reinstall XP...
    Thanks

Several more things to try - not directly IE related but IE is so tightly integrated into the OS they may help you out.

    start~run~sfc /scannow

A registry cleaning by a good cleaning app. I can't offer a specific suggestion since I use RegScrubXP and it's no longer available for download as far as I can tell.

I think you've been hijacked or infected, because of the additional characters IE is adding, and the weird behavior in auto complete. Download and install, then run the programs in Newts signature (Spybot and AdAware) then post a
    Hijack This log.

Newt--Did not try to actually download (since I do not run XP) but here are some sites that claim to offer RegScrubXP.

Jim - if you had tried, you'd have found that most (maybe all) of those download links are now broken. They may point somewhere but the app isn't there for download. They certainly did offer it at some point but if any still do, I didn't find them.
