Recently my desktop running windows xp started having this endless loop of autochk program not found and then the computer reboots it doesn't even get to the log on screen so obviously I can't boot up in safe mode even. I tried inserting the windows xp disc to no avail. It asks if I want to boot from cd press any button, I do and then it turns into autochk program not found again. I was attempting to do a repair or fresh install (was going to do whatever was needed) and still get stuck in that loop. I have seen fixes that included booting in safe mode or downloading a program from norton due to their GoBack program (which I have never had installed) I would like to know if there is anything I can do to force it to boot off the cd or any other possible fixes. ps there is no floppy drive to use.

Booting from CD is handled by the BIOS, no software on your hard drive can prevent this. Make sure your CD disc is clean and scratch free then run a Lens cleaner through your CD/DVD drive.

You said obviously you can't start in SAFE MODE because your problem occurs before the login screen, I'm at a loss to understand what the problem is, SAFE MODE can be started before the system starts by tapping F8 during boot up and selecting it.

Just to add to Wildfire's comments...

You can choose what to boot with from a Boot Menu...for instance on Dell PC's and Laptop's you can press the "F12" key just after you start the unit and it will give you a menu of devices to boot from...IE: from a D600 Laptop that I'm using as a test unit...when I press F12 I get:
    Internal HDD
    CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive
    Onboard NIC

    BIOS Setup
    Diagnostics

And if I add a USB Memory Stick I'll get...
    USB Storage Device

So if I wanted to force it to boot from a CD I would choose my CD/DVD?CD-RW Drive option

I found the problem of why it wouldn't boot the cd. When it asked if I wanted to boot from cd the keyboard would shut off and it wouldn't register anything the keyboard did. It was a keyboard that hooked into the cpu via usb I unhooked that keyboard and used the old keyboard I had where the ctrl doesn't work on it. I finally got the cd to boot.

There is probably an option in your BIOS for USB Legacy Support which allows you to use your USB Keyboard during boot up. On my older P4 with an AwardBios it's USB Legacy Support

From Intel Website => Issues when USB Legacy Support is disabled

Just figured I would also add that on my Dell XPS Laptop, running a newer BIOS, it's "USB Emulation "...
