 Does anybody know how I can autodial up to my ISP when computer starts, I tried putting a shortcut of my dial-up connection into startup but this does not work.

    I am using XP Professional

At this stage I do not require a browser to be run.

I have found a solution myself, so in case anybody reads this the answer is as follows:

    STAGE 1
Click the Start button and go Control Panel > Network Connections and click the Advanced menu. Select Dialup preferences, check the checkbox to Enable autodial by Location.

    STAGE 2
    (XP Help file information only)
The autodial feature works only when the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager service is started. To start the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager service, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage. In the console tree, double-click Services and Applications, and then click Services. In the details pane, right-click Remote Access Auto Connection Manager, and then click Start. In the Status column, Started appears.

    SOLUTION
From the information above (extracted from XP help) Moved string from Properties for "Remote Access Auto connection Manager" i.e "%windir%\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs" and used this information as a startup shortcut and changed icon to a network type (just to make it look pretty).

Finally placed a shortcut in windows XP startup for my ISP from Network connections.

    Well shoot paulbristow :(
I totally missed your post. I'm sorry about that. But I must say....you've just made a wonderful and helpful tutorial for the next one that comes along with this very same problem! :) So thank you!
