have an nt server based network. all other clients are win98 and log on to server drives automatically. the xp client requires that I open explorer click on drive enter username and password to r/w that drive. Is there a way to automatically logon onto server and see drives??

XP-Pro should behave the same way. When you map a drive and click on "reconnect at startup" it should do just that.

XP-Home has no real idea about NT networks (domains and all) and probably wouldn't work right.

If you have XP-Pro, look in the registry under HKCU\Network\Drive (where Drive is the drive letter you have mapped) and make sure the ConnectionType is set to a value of 1.

If somehow that fails, disconnect the drive in Windows Explorer and open a cmd window then map with the net use command and set the persistant switch to "yes" as in

net use z: \\servername\sharename /persistent:yes which should do the same thing for you.

    If you have XP-Home, upgrade.
