Hi, I have Auto Arrange checked to sort by Name but nothing happens. To explain when I drag or paste a folder into say My Music and then close the folder and then reopen it, the new folder is still in the original position and has not been sorted. Every time I have to manually sort the folder by clicking Name.

This feature used to work fine but has just stopped. It's driving me nuts as I cannot find an answer anywhere. I hope one of you guys has the answer.

    Thanks.

Auto Arrange - are you referring to the "desktop" auto arrange?

colinlam--When you drag and drop a file/folder into a Windows window, it seldom arranges itself according to any rule. But it should when you close and then reopen the window.
Or try one of the alternatives. View|Arrange Icons By|Choose one.

Hi Welshjim, thanks for your reply. When I close and reopen folder a folder they have stopped rearrange thenselves and I have to do it manually by clicking view > Arrange Icons By > Name. It used to do it automatically but has stopped working.

Hi PeteC, thanks for your suggestions. I tried both and restarted each time but unfortunately neither corrected my problem. Thanks again.

Suggest you run System File Checker - it may not solve the oproblem, but it certainly won't do any harm.

Hi PeteC, I had been meaning to do that for a while so I ran it as you suggested but, as you probably expected, no joy.

    You read my mind :)

Another suggestion, which you have probably already have tried ....

In My Music click on Name to sort by Name. Then, with the folder still open Tools > Folder Options > View and 'Apply to all Folders'.

Yes I had tried that. I think I'll have to wait until I do a clean install which I am planning to do when I have the time. Thanks for all your help.

You're welcome - sorry that we have, so far, been unable to find a solution.
