My audio system no longer works. No errors show in Device Mgr. The driver is Enabled, but not started. I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times. I have reviewed all Service Dependencies. All related to Windows Audio are satisfactory. I have Linux Ubuntu 7.10 installed in a partition on my secondary internal HD. The sound system works normally from Ubuntu. Non-PnP drivers can be started or stopped from Device Mgr. However, I can find no way to start the PnP audio driver.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My system is P4, 1.7Gh, 768Mb RD ram running WinXP Home. All updates are current. Win XP is on my primary HD. Secondary HD and Ext. HD are for real time BU of My Documents which is heavy with digital images.

Added: Original audio system in integrated. Added a PCI audio board, but the results were exactly the same.

What's the brand and model of your motherboard ? Uninstall the device from the device manager and it will be redetected when Windows restarts. Uninstall the driver or bundled software from add/remove program and download then install the latest driver form the motherboard manufacturer's website.
