    although i have upgraded to audigy live, i am not sure if it will play sound through my old speakers...
    the most i can get is a faint sound with a lot of static over the top, is this because the card is producing digital sound and i have to get 5.1 speakers?????

    When you say "old speakers ", I get the feeling you are talking about unamplified speakers. Most new cards require amplified speakers. The days of just plugging speakers into the card itself are gone.

    i guessed it might have been along these lines....
    you replied just before i was answering answer about monitor.
