ATI TV wonder VE problem in XP

When I record a TV show using ATI it seems to record alright, but
when I try to play it back on WMP, it looks as if it is lettered boxed...black stripe top and bottom, and the picture is streched fromside to side and squished. When I record with the ATI TV wonder VE, the picture is fine in the TV viewer, and I record and
save it to my videos, in documents. But it plays back like I explained . I made a vcd and played it and same results as explained above. So it seems it is recording it that way. If I capture a still it appears to be OK. Any help would be appreciated.

I forgot to add this info. I went to ati and there reply made no sense to me. Here it is:
