I have a new computer that was built over the weekend with an ati radeon 9500 pro, 128 ram running windows me. I have been struggling with trying to resolve the black icons on my desk top and pull down menus. I don't know if it's the video card or the os. What I did find out is that ATI won't help me unless i disassemble my computer to give them the dam number on the sticker that is on the video card. What's this?????? How stupid is that? How customer service is that? That is exactly what we want to do is get this surprise that you can't register the product unless you disassemble it. If I have to take this computer apart to get to the dam sticker, I'll return this card!!!

This is a fyi. They should have posted a big dam warning sign on the package that they were going to do this!

    Hi Phyllis
The solution for the black icons is here.
As for finidng out the ID for your card...perhaps try Belarc or Aida32

    ATI Card serial numbers

I just went through the same situation with the Tech support people at ATI....finally I demanded to speak to one of the Supervisors and he was able to give me a serial number so I could first 'register' the product on-line...only after it is registered on-line will the tech support people help you! So just put up a big fuss...and they'll help you out.

Like many manufacturers, ATI produces their own video cards, but they also sell the chipset to others. So you have "Built by ATI" and "Powered by ATI ". They do not support cards that they did not manufacture, for obvious reasons, and determining if your card is one of theirs is a logical first step in offering support.

What's it take, like 30 seconds to get your case open and write down a number? Scream all you want but nobody is going to come down from Canada to assist you until they have some kind of info. How come this doesn't surprise me?

Sorry you didn't get the sympathy you were looking for. At least you have a good video card.

    ;)
