    Howdy,

Without manually inspecting a user's video card, i am trying to install the drivers for this card. i have downloaded the latest version from ATI. Apparently this card is the RADEON X600/X550 series (as was suggested in the device manager when i first looked at the device manager).

When i took it over, i noticed that there is an Unknown device in the device manager that says that it is "on the RADEON x600/X550 ". but that's all the information i have. i have used the ati software uninstall to clear out the drivers (which worked as i was returned to the basic MS video drivers). then i tried to install the complete catalyst software suite but that won't let me. so i am stuck installing just the display drivers (as per this web page: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xp ).

so i have searched the internet for suggestions on what this other unknown device is and where to locate the driver for it.

reason being for all of this is that this user is experiencing intermittent rebooting and freezing when accessing his system via RealVNC. when he is sitting at the machine, there is no problem. my hunch is that there is an incorrect or corrupt driver somewhere, but i can't locate it. my first hunch points to this video card issue, but i suppose it could be anywhere. does anyone else have a suggestion or where to look next? perhaps the nvidia chipset driver?

    thanks in advance,
    yt

RealVNC is remote control/remote desktop software, it might not be related to the graphics drivers.

"x600/x550" seems to suggest accurate drivers are not installed.

Maybe you could update the chipset drivers at Gigabyte. After that, I would expect the drivers supplied with the graphics cards would install (or as suggested, find them at the manufacturer's website).

before installing new video drivers it is best, to after uninstalling the old drivers to use Driver Cleaner. I had to before installing the the latest ATI hyper drivers.
