I have a machine at home running Windows Server 2003 as a development/home use system, and I was trying to set up VLC to stream a live video feed over the network. Previous to this I had been running DNS, DHCP, IIS, AD, MySQL, and some personal service software on the system, and using it as a general file/print server. I happened to have an ATI card installed supporting video capture (the system was pretty much built from spare parts), and I decided to just use that as the source. It didn't want to function in this mode properly without the video drivers installed, so I attempted to install the XP version of the drivers (which one would assume should technically work, since XP and 2003 are essentially the same core operating system), and after installation and a reboot, it was evident they were not going to work. Additionally, and to my concern, I noticed that since restarting the MySQL service was no longer starting. I tried to reinstall the MySQL service to no avail, and then I tried uninstalling the graphics drivers. The uninstall appeared to be successful, but upon reboot I noticed that again, several ATI-related services were not starting (which I assume should've been removed, and they do not appear in the Services MMC), and neither was MySQL. At this point I am mostly concerned with getting MySQL running again (and it will run manually, but that's not much of a solution when trying to run the server as a headless system, with no user locally logged in), because I really can't see how the two things are related. Thank you all for any assistance.

thats a strange sequence of events mike. I wonder if one of those ATI services didnt get uninstalled but wont start, and somehow infested the SCM dependancy tree early on, meaning the SCM isnt even trying to start the dependant services.

I'd review the event log and see if you can determine which service is the first to fail, and fix that problem, see if the rest dont fall into line.
