    Hi all,

I just purchased the Asus 1025C netbook, fully aware that it comes with only 1GB RAM and it's painful to upgrade (youtube) for semi-beginners like myself. However, I learned that one can uninstall all the bloatware that comes with the netbook and improve the speed somewhat.

I took the advice to not use IE or Firefox, just Google Chrome (is it right?) I don't do any gaming, will mainly use it for SKYPE, Picasa, emailing and web surfing etc. After installing the usual SKYPE, Picasa, and various anti virus programs (AVG 2012, AD-Aware, Windows Defender, Malwarebytes, ATF-Cleaner), my netbook is constantly running on 75-85% physical memory. I have tried uninstalling some programs, disable some of the start-up programs but I am not sure I have done away enough as I have no knowledge on what most of them are thus am afraid to delete something important.

So here are 3 questions I have and would appreciate your help in pointing me to the right direction:

    1. Are there any more programs I can safely uninstall:

    - Akamai NetSession Interface
    - ASUSUpdate for Eee PC
    - CapsHook
    - Eee Docking 3.10.5
    - FontResizer
    - Hotkey Service
    - InstantOn for EPC
    - Intel Control Center
    - Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver
    - Inter Rapid Storage Technology
    - ASUS Live Update
    - Qualcomm Atheros WiFi Driver Installation
    - Realtek High Definition Audio Driver
    - Super Hybrid Engine
    - Windows Live Essentials 2011

    2. Are there any more programs I should further disable at Startup:

    - Asus Sender (5 of them)
    - Realtek HK Audio Manager
    - VProtect Application (Unknown source)
    - ELAN Smart-Pad

Yes, I know not to turn of all the protections at startup.

    3. I constantly have at least 68 items running in the background. Should I disable any of the process at task manager:

    - CapsHook.exe
    - csrss.exe
    - dwm.exe
    - ETDCtrl.exe
    - ETDCtlHelper.exe
    - explorer.exe
    - HotKeyMon.exe
    - HotkeyService.exe
    - InsOnWMI.exe
    - LiveUpdate.exe
    - RtHDVCpl.exe
    - rundll32.exe
    - rundll32.exe
    - sidebar.exe
    - SuperHybridEngine.exe
    - taskhost.exe
    - vprot.exe
    - WallPaperAgent.exe
    - winlogon.exe
    - wuauclt.exe

Sorry it's such a run-on questions, I have google most of the items but these are the remaining items that I am unsure of what to do with them.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance. WL

I have an ASUS netbook, a eeePC, that came with 1GB of ram, and I boosted the ram to 2GB by buying the requisite 2GB stick.

    What anti-virus are you using?

    Download Process Explorer from sysinternals.com

Run it, and look at your Private Bytes column. That will give you an idea of who is being greedy.

    You can uninstall:
    ASUS Live Update
AVG (really slows down that netbook)
    Akamai NetSession Interface
    ASUSUpdate for Eee PC
Eee Docking 3.10.5 (that's the Desktop toolbar)
Adaware (pretty useless & bloated today compared to other better free products)

    You can disable:
    Asus Sender (5 of them)
    Realtek HK Audio Manager
    VProtect Application (avg)

    install:
    Microsoft Security Essentials

Thank you so much for the input!! I was not aware that you can get a 2gb RAM stick but will look into in when I need it.

The Google Chrome is the one that taking up a lot of RAM to run.. but so as IE & FF so nothing I can do about it :(

I was using AVG and Ad Aware (I know, my IT knowledge is from the 80s), along with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes plus the ATF-Cleaner. As suggested, I have since installed Microsoft Security Essential and uninstalled AVG and Ad Aware... so is it good enough protection now? Do I need to uninstall the rest of the items too?

I uninstalled/disable the above mentioned files, my netbook when start up, it's dropped to approx. 60% RAM usage, and just less than 50 program processing compares to 68 before... still not lightening fast but sooooo much better than before so am very happy!

Thank you so much for the help guys, it's greatly appreciated! xoxo

I find that when I run Chrome on my netbook the Cache folder fills up fast and soon becomes huge. I delete the cache file using windows explorer just before running Chrome. It helps my speed.

To clear the cache, you have to click the blue wrench at the top-right, and select "Clear browsing data ".

    Keep malwarebytes antimalware.
    This is not needed either:
    WallPaperAgent.exe
