    A small problem for those of you who might remember how to do this. In Windows 98, I've lost the ability to associate a sound to the volume icon in the systray. This option is not in the "sound" file in Control Panel. I know it can be done because I've associated different sounds to the slider before, but I guess I'm now having a senior moment. I am not having any other problems with sound; I just want to associate a sound to the volume slider in the systray, so I know what the volume is coming out of my speakers, as the slider is moved up/down. Does anyone remember how to do this? Thanks

    The sound event you are looking for is called "Default sound ".

    Yes, it is what you are looking for. There isn't a specific event handler when you move the volume slider bar, so "default sound" is the one that gets used.

    Mark's right. Look in the list of events for default sound. Set it to the sound you want and then try the volume slider. If it doesn't work, something else is wrong.

    Problem solved

    Thanks for all the help everyone. The problem was that "default sound" in "Events" in "Sounds" of Control Panel was missing... completely. I had to re-enter it via the Registry. After doing that, the "default sound" showed up again in the "Events" window and I was able to associate it with whatever sounds I want. In case anyone is interested, this is the information I obtained, from another forum, as to what this should look like in the Registry;
    "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\.Default\.Current"
    The Value name there is (Default) and the Value data is
    C:\WINDOWS\media\Ding.wav
    Of course, once in the "Sounds" window in Control Panel, you can always associate this event with any sound you want.
    I was also told, that directly below it is the key;
    "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\.Default\.Default "
    with the same Value name and Value date for it
