I can't get windows to recognize my second hard drive. The drive is shown properly in BIOS and also shows on the Disk Maintenance screen but the only thing it will let me do to the volume is delete the partition and I don't want to do that and lose my data. Any help with this annoying problem would be greatly appreciated!!

Are you speaking of a second harddrive or a partition on an existing hard drive. If it is a second harddrive and XP does not show it, how did you get data on it? Are both harddrives using the same file system?

    Hi Maurice!
It's a second hard drive, the drive shows up on the disk management screen and in the device manager but win will not assign the drive a drive letter so I can't use it. The primary drive is NTFS and the second one is FAT 32.

    Thanks for replying! JD

Hi Barbara Ann and thanks for replying! I gave up trying to solve this dilema and swapped hard drives. I think the main reason that XP wouldn't assign a drive letter is because the drive was partitioned into two volumes in FAT32, although that is just a guess because I still can't find the right answer!!
