This test is for MS Internet Explorer only.

Here is what happens to me:

The ActiveX dialog box pops up asking "Do you want Software such as ActiveX controls and plug-ins to run? "

I get this because I have a blanket prompt for activeX, whether authenticated or not, in IE. Even get this at MS update site, which is what I want.

If I say no, nothing happens, and go to a page which explains what just happened, its the end of the test.

If I say yes, "processing... ", get the Security warning box: "Do you want to install and run (the SpywareInfo fake dialer) the publisher cannot be determined because of the problem below.

    Athenticode Signiture not found "

    Regards - Charles

Here is an interesting aside to this. I have Download Accelerator Plus [registered] installed as my download program. The page prompted the activation of DAP, to download Dialer.Exe. I then disabled the intregration of DAP with IE, then got the 'ActiveX control are disabled' message.
By the way, the Dialer.Exe program was only 20 kb. Had this been real to someone with lax settings, it would have been downloaded in .25 seconds, and then installed in less than 2 seconds with a dialup connection. Small wonder this is a problem.

I have my security set so I receive an alert that tells me that my security settings do not permit it to be downloaded. In this way I can then become aware of a site that is attempting to use activex controls that I did not request.

    STOP DIALERS v1.2SE

fyi i found this cool FREEWARE program by an italian programmer which should prevent a dialer program from using your computer's modem even if it does become installed.

    STOP DIALERS v1.2SE:

    homepage:
    http://www.akapulce.net/socket2000/eng_programs.asp

it's only in italian language now and it surely works with telephone systems in Europe...hope it works too in the United States, Canada, Australia etc. etc.

btw there is also a program produced by an Australian company which will completely lock down your computer dial-up networking system... stopITnow! ... his maker says that it works with telephone systems in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia; 60 different countries altogether ... but it's shareware!

    you can find it here:
    http://www.stopitnow.com.au/

hope this info may come in useful to every member!
    :)
