Actual Collision Of A 1959 Chevy vs A New 2009 Vehicle

    Interesting video to watch.

You know how we always think about what big huge tanks the old cars of the 50's and 60's were for size?

And how we talk about how there is so much plastic on the new cars that if one of the old tanks ever collided with a new car, the new car would be demolished?

Well, someone in the insurance industry put that theory to the test and, let me tell you something, after watching this video, you may just change your mind.

The crumple zone has been known about for decades in Formula 1 and no doubt also in NASCAR across the pond.

In 1975 I owned a Mercedes 280S which was built with a crumple zone. A friend with an identical model was hit by a truck which crushed the front fender back to the windscreen. My friend and his wife had only minor injuries, after what looked like a fatal crash, but this was before the days of airbags.
    Not a new design feature!
