Arcsoft visual effects comes bundled with Windows 7 in my Sony Vaio laptop.

I cannot see myself in the built in video because every time I try to test the video, the Arcsoft visual effects window pops up and my image disappears from the screen.

It looks like this program is blocking my video.

I have tried removing it but I am told that I cannot remove it because it is running, but it is not running when I look into Task Manager.

I need to either fix the program or remove it.

I am not using the system listed. I use a Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit 6 g ram, 500 g harddisk, for video
    any suggestions welcome

Try right clicking on the video cam in the task bar and choose EXIT. See if you can remove that other program or at least disable it. It may have to be there for the camera to work properly.

I found I might have made a mistake. I was able to see a camera image again when I unchecked "private" in the setting of the Arcsoft dialogue box.

I attempted to remove the program but a message kept tellilng me it was in use by a program. So it may be necessary for the built-in webcam of the Sony Vaio vpcf1390x to work at all.

This would be no problem except that many of the adjustments in the dialogue box, like saturation, etc. do not seem to be operating. That may be because the camera is too basic.
