    LS,

I was wondering if anybody has some ideas about how to archive netscape mail.

I work for a company which uses netscape mailclients and we are having trouble with the amount of stored mail on our network.

We are a DM and mailing company and so we receive enormous amounts of email, mostly with (big) attached files, and we currently have users who have mail directories sized up to 1 GB !! They store each received mail message in separate mail folders, for later retrieval.

So it is no wonder Netscape slows down.

    My question is the following;

Does anybody know if there is (third party) software, with which it is possible to archive those stored messages automaticly, by date. Maybe in another format, or on another disk or server. And it must be retrievable as well. I wonder how other companies handle this..

    Thx in advance.

Please see following link for archiving Netscape Mail:
    Backing up Netscape Mail

I don't know if there's any third party programme that will do this, however, it does not look hard to write a script (OR batch) to back up those files automatically in certain date/time. (i.e. Scheduled Tasks)

    Anthony,

Thx for your reply. What you suggested is something we considered as well, but it's not very pratical.

The point is that you have to backup those mailboxes completely and then restore them later completely also.

What we would like is some sort of tool wich move messages say older than 60 days, to some sort of databases, which we can view (by browser or some other application)

I saw some tools who could do that, but they are mainly written for Bill G's ****..

Actually I found one which should work with netscape but only with the 4.x versions and not the latest 7.02

Vlietinho (still wondering how other (big) companies handle these kinds of things)

    Hi vlietinho,

I found this program searching with Google, which may fit your criteria:

Email2FMP 1.8 Eudora & Netscape Mail Archive Tool To FileMaker

    New in this version:
Eudora Pro, Light and Sponsored mailboxes for Mac and Windows
Netscape Communicator 4 and 6 mailboxes for Mac and Windows
mail.app mailboxes for Mac OS X Public Beta

Registered users can export their emails from the locked archive and import them into the open archive file.
    ---

I know absolutely nothing about this program, but thought it did look interesting. If it is compatible with Netscape 6, then it should also work with Netscape 7. It is shareware $10 USD.

The catch: it requires File Maker Pro 5, $99 USD!

    FWIW,

    Ramona :D

    Ramona,

Thx for your reply. I read the article and it seemed to me that it described something we could use very well.

But... When I clicked the link to the site of the makers of that 'Email2FMP, it came up with a 'this domain is for sale' notice.

So, as we say in Dutch 'Helaas Pindakaas'. The company that made that tool is probably out of business...

Thx anyway. I'll try some google searches myself on that produktname maybe somebody took over.
