    Ramona,

I was directed to a paper you wrote on this topic. Since my email folders seem to be getting a little unwieldy, I want to archive them. I think I was able to follow your instructions about setting up teh Archive account. But I had probelms when I put in teh CD (R) (the only one I have ) into teh drive. I was able to create teh Archive folder, but when I tried to locate the slt\Mail etc. folder on teh HD I had no idea where to look or how to find. Can you help? I'm a beginner here....

If I could ask you a second question....I just installed after a download Netscape 7.2 because someone told me 7.1 was way old. I went to Uninstall 7.1 from Add/Remove prgrams, but got this error message:

"0: Uninstall log folder not found:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Netscape\Netscape\7.1b1(en)\Uninstall\Uninstall Log Folder"

Can you help with either of these problems? Thank you in advance for your kind assistance.

    JN

    JN,

You don't say which OS you are running, so these would be the paths to your *.slt folder.

    Windows 2000/XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt

NOTE: These files are hidden by default.
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files. "
    5. Click OK.

    Windows 95/98/98SE/ME
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt

Actually Netscape 7.2 is not the best choice either. It too has security vulnerabilities, and is buggy. You want to think seriously about moving to either Firefox, and Thunderbird, or Mozilla 1.7.8. We can help you with the transition, but it really is a no sweat deal.

Firefox is a standalone browser, and Thunderbird a standalone mail client. They both are quite stable, and a new release (Version 1.0.5) is due in the near future for Firefox.

Mozilla 1.7.8 is a suite, containing Mail & Newsgroups, and is different from Netscape in only two respects:
    1. It has no AIM/NIM
    2. You can't access the AOL/Netscape Webmail from the Mail & Newsgroups component.
Otherwise, you will see little difference.

Now, to the problem with Netscape 7.1:

You will need to uninstall Netscape 7.2 (I can hear you groaning) ;)
This will also uninstall Netscape 7.1
    Do this with Add/Remove

Next: delete the GRE folder located here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE

The GRE folder will contain two subfolders:
    1.4f_2003062408 - Netscape 7.1
    1.7.2_2004080415 - Netscape 7.2

Next: Delete the Netscape Program folders located here:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape

If you have plugins that you wish to keep, then back up, or make a copy of the plugins folder before deleting the Program folder.
If you have added search engines to the searchplugins folder, also make a copy before deleting the Program folder.

    Next: REBOOT YOUR PC

    Now reinstall Netscape.
