Our organisation policy requires the user to use certificates/digital signature for sending
internal email. On Netscape Communicator 4.5 and 4.7, when sending email, there is a function to tick/include your cert,
encrypt and ask for return receipt. Where are those functions in 6.2? There is also to automatically signed messages when
sending emails(in Security)? Where are those functions in 6.2? I have searched all the details that you can click in 6.2 but cannot find it. I have read the help file/FAQ at the Netscape website but it doesn't explain about my problem. The certificate is there (Edit>Preferences>Privacy&Security>Certificate) but somehow, it cannot be attached to the email. Because there is a filter on our mail server to reject email without digital signature, the email will be rejected every time. Maybe the enable function is there but I missed it. Any help or suggestion will be appreciated.

    Welcome to the Forum!

    Hi rayaes,

I see what you mean, as I haven't found a place to enable the certificate either. I will see what information I can find on this problem, or at least find out if this feature is enabled in Netscape 6. That could be the problem.

I'll post again when I have additional information.

    rayaes,

As I suspected, the "Secure Mime" (S/Mime) email signing and encryption, are currently unavailable in the latest Netscape 6.22, but will be available on the next netscape release, based on the Mozilla 1.0 source code.

    Thanks for the info!!!

    Dear Ramona,

Thank you for the info. Now at least I have something to reply to my boss. But I know that this is not an official word from Netscape itself. I will try to search the Netscape website about 6.2 not supporting/available the "Secure Mime" (S/Mime) email signing and encryption. Meanwhile I will keep surfing to findout if anybody has any info on this problem. Thanks again for the info. Keep up the good work.

    A bit more help, please!!!

    Dear Ramona,

I need just a bit more help from you. You said that the "Secure Mime (S/Mime) email signing and encryption, are currently unavailable in the latest Netscape 6.22, but will be available on the next netscape release, based on the Mozilla 1.0 source code ". Can you explain a bit more. I know that when I send an email with my certificate, it will be attached as a "smime.p7s" file. From where did you arrive to that conclusion? What is your source - webpage or others? Can you give me the address? I tried to find it in the Netscape web page, but I couldn't find it (or maybe missed it). Or maybe you checked the 6.2 configuration? My boss will need some source, officially or unofficially when I present it to him. Thanks again for your info.

    Hi rayaes,

    My source:

    MozillaNews.org

SMIME Starting to be checked in

    October 31st, 2001 - Ksosez

Last night SMIME (Secure MIME) for the Personal Security Manager (PSM) was checked in to the tree. This is the first part of 2 (the second being the Mail/News component) and will allow the use of PGP and other encryption/verification methods. Woot!

This is Version 0.9.6, and Netscape 6.2.2 is based on Mozilla0.9.4.
