I installed an App (old Lotus smartsuite) and it put itself onto my Startup without asking. I went a bit nuts looking for the "startup folder" like in Win-98 to excise it, but couldn't find it. HELP said the TASK MANAGER is the place, but its not.

So, as I have done many time in Win-98; I ran MSCONFIG and unchecked the errant items, then rebooted.

Win-XP went nuts. First it hung, then it came back with some msg about running some diagnostic, which I don't quite remember what it said, but I had to reboot 3 times to get normal again.

So; how do I remove items from startup in WIN-XP safely?

Thanks, I will in a few days. Can't just now as my internet connection is still on my old PC. I have some install problems with some essential s/w on CD-RW that can't be read on the new pc.

When that is solved, I will move it all over, and let you know how STARTUPCPL worked.

It may be as simple as .....

Right click blank area of Taskbar > Properties > Start Menu > Customise > Remove > Startup Folder and remove what you like!

I'm guessing that this is the sequence in XP Luna - I use the Classic Mode, but can't think that it would differ greatly.

Thanks, found it, once I switched to "classic ". The Startup was empty, which is what it should be for now and my Lotus does not startup on reboot.

Now, I have to remember this for next time.

The description above is exactly the same for Luna...sigh... Luna works pretty much the same, just looks nicer. Eyecandy. Soft pleasing blue. Try it for a week, guys, just so you can say you did! :D

Just for you .... my second tower has XP set up with the silver theme - matches my hair

Can't say I like it particularly - never was one for too much eyecandy and don't really care for all that 3D effect - and as for that 'orrible green Start button - yuck :D
