When I go to open an application from my desktop nothing happens. I go to Task Manager and it says it is running but I can't see anything. This happens with a few of the applications on the desktop but not with others.

Recycle, My Computer, Security (security files), Microsoft Office, and a couple of misc. folders do not open visually. Firefox, IE, Photoshop, others do.

I notice you have two monitors. Is it possible that the missing programs are showing up off the edge of the screen(s)?

Maybe pressing Winkey + P will shed some light on your issue.

While in Task Manager - if you end task and then try to open the apps - do they open?
