Upon startup of Windows XP, I immediately get an "applicaiton fatal error. Unable to connect to the ccd process." Then, a few minutes go by and I get the dreaded "widows is shutting down... NT authority... rpc call..." message from the Blaster worm. I've run the Symantec blaster worm removal tool, and it doesn't detect it.

Now, I'm unable to install Norton Anti-virus, access the internet, or even open windows help.

I just want to save some files to cd, and then I'll re-format. Please help!

    Hello tvbones,

Have you tried booting up in safe mode? F5 or F8

If windows doesn't shut down, then try running the Symantec tool while in safe mode.

    Hello tvbones,

The other way to handle this if Windows does shut down be fore being able to apply the fix:

    http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html

How to stay on line long enough: article here http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1217741,00.asp

    Excerpt from the article:

    quote
On most machines Blaster triggers a Windows shut down sequence with a 60-second warning, leaving no time for downloading. Your first step is to abort the shutdown by entering the command "shutdown /a" (no quotes) in the Start menu's Run dialog
    end quote

    Regards - Charles

You can right click on the task bar and go to the Task Manager...browse through the processes and look for the MSBlast.exe to see if it running...if it is...shut it down...you can then keep you computer on long enough to get rid of it...don't forget to go into your registry to delete it from staring at bootup...PC House Call from Trend Micro.com is good for getting rid of this...you have probably fixed this problem by now, but I wanted to pass this on to you if you found someone else possibly with the MS Blaster virus...

Also, don't forget to delete all your system restore points.
