In the last 6 weeks or so I have had a surfeit of Application errors:Event Id 1000 with usually a corresponding Event Id 1001. Applications that have failed include:

    Internet Explorer 6 iexplore.exe
    F-Prot Antivirus fp-win.exe
    Microsoft Word 2003 winword.exe
    Microsoft Excel 2003 excel.exe
    Real One Player realplay.exe
    Windows Media Player 8 wmplayer.exe
    Apple iTunes itunes.exe
    Intuit QuickBooks03 qbw32.exe

Some programs fail when I do something specific, creating AAC files in iTunes for instance, but most seem to be random. I am sure that all of these programs cannot be faulty. I think that it has occurred since I applied the Internet Explorer security patch but I am not sure.

Has anyone else had problems like these or suggestions on where to look. I have searched for the fault buckets shown in the 1001 events but cannot find any of them.

The system is XP Pro Version 2002 SP1

    1. Run an online virus scan just for safety. I like RAV (link in my signature).

    2. With your XP install CD in the drive, start~run~sfc /scannow (and note the space before /scannow).

    3. If neither of these fixes you up, next time you get any of these errors, open the events (both 1000 & 1001), click on the icon below the up/down arrows (sends a text copy to your clipboard) and paste the entire things here. If they have a long string of the binary data, you can omit that after the first line or two of it.

    Newt,

Thank you for the reply. I did as you said and I still get problems.
Here are the event log entries for one of the more random events.

I tried to listen to a BBC Radio Programme with the BBC Radio Player and Internet Explorer Fails. When I repeated accessing it I was successful. The url is http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio4_aod.shtml?nowshow

If this is not any help I have lots more.

    Thanks for the help

    Nev

If the sfc didn't fix things up then I'm betting the RealPlayer pngu3267.dll file is the guilty party for this one.

You can try getting a new copy from Here and replacing the one you have now. If that doesn't help, possibly a reload of the player.

If still no good, take a look at How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP. You've already done the simple part of the 'fix' but you may want to consider a repair install of XP.

    Newt,

Thank you for getting back. You seem to be saying that you think the problem is tha App. I will try fixing Real Player and if that is not OK then I will do a repair install of XP.

That should keep me busy for a while.
