The instruction '0x77fcc633' refered memory at 'ox73202faf.'the memory could not be written. clickok to terminate,or click cancel to debug" I have enabled debugging but that does not work. also would like to uninstall XP setup so we can start again when the new AV system is installed. Thanks in anticipation. At what point do you get that message? Can you try to boot into Win XP Safe Mode?

You talk about "application ", when and where does it say that?

If you can get to Safe Mode, look in Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs, for programs that will run in the background. Uninstall them if they might need upgrading to run in Windows XP and then install the upgraded version when you get Win XP working. Also look in Device Manager for any problems listed and when you are there, go to the View menu and select "Show hidden devices ".

Think about added devices, actually I found one reference here with one of the same memory addresses
    http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Win2000/microsoft.public.win2000.printing/2004-07/0140.html
It referred to printing in Win 2000, it may point to drivers if the printer is connected, but "application" may mean the printer software that is installed (uninstall it from Add or Remove Programs).

If you can't get any further in Windows XP, you should be able to run the Windows 2000 installer disk to go back to that.

Thanks Mattman for reply. The words Application Error are on the top of the error window, which appears regularly on the screen even when cancelled. I will have a go at what you suggest when I get back to the Centre. Can you ask your police to give Hamilton his car back please, he may need it , it could be faster than the one he is driving in the race, or have they nicked it because they don't want him to get in front of Webber?.

You don't say if you can reach the desktop or what stage stage it has that error.

We're a little down on noise and smoke pollution here (I don't disagree). I'm glad he won't need that car for racing. :) Webber, I hope he does his "action" on the track.

Hi Matt, The Application error window comes up after the desktop icons have loaded and during work either in Word, Paintshop Pro, Publisher, etc that our members are doing at the time. The Council IT chaps (not my usual word) are reinstalling theTrend Micro AV's, but have not finished, the installation is 'incomplete'. we have a lot of 'Trojans'on this pc in 'quarentine'. I shall be at the centre on Monday,I will have a go then.
Don't know if you watch the F1, but the cars are a bit close to the water and your road markings are a bit naff. My interest in F1 is because I have a son who works in F1 design here in England. Thanks for help so far, let you know results.

Response to Broni re 'changing to XP'

Hi Broni, sorry to confuse, but our 8 PC's at the (over 50's) computer forum had Windows 2000 OS, we changed 6 over to XP and have two left to do, no 4, the one in question, has XP partialy installed, not default OS yet, because the Council IT chaps have not finished installing Trend Micro AV. WE are trying to keep all the PC's running because we do classes three times a week as well as three forums a week. (If someone from the local Council reads this and recognises the problems and the Centre, please hurry up.)
Let me know if this explains things.

You'll have to explain the above, because, honestly, I have no idea what you're saying.

Xp was being installed, but the IT chaps had to leave to do an urgent job elsewhere, leaving the PC with Windows 2000 as default and XP set-up incomplete, the start up screen shows both with 2000 as default, if we change over to XP it asks for XP disk to complete set-up. the IT chaps have it and your guess is as good as mine as to when they will return from sorting out the computers at the local rubbish dump. And don't think I am joking.

I am now at the Centre and have switched no 4 PC on, the error window is still showing, it is as follows, "WinMgmt.exe-Application Error" this is the heading on the window, the rest of the error message is, '0x77pcc663' referenced memory at '0x73202faf' the memory could not be written.
It is the same as described before but I have been unable to erradicate it.What does it mean please?

Well, this is getting even more mysterious. Were IT people planning on setting dual boot on those computers?
The above has to be sorted out first. I suggest, someone start over and perform clean XP installation, if this is what the final outcome should be.

Thanks Broni, I carried out a Virus check after I last posted,it came up with 221 , mostly Trojans, thought I had quarantined them last time.
I doubt if IT chaps intended to have a duel boot, they are not on the other 7.
I suspect they left it all hanging while they had a cuppa.
We phoned their office and their office promised to get on to the IT chaps,we are now waiting for a response. ( Easter coming up, followed by Summer holidays then Christmas, ho,hum!).
However I am still interested in what the error message, reported in last post, means, I have been looking up a mass of stuff from an IT publisher, but still can't get a handle on this one. Most other problems I have posted to WindowsBBS,have been quickly resolved.
I am hanging in there, will post back when/if IT chaps come up with answer, I like the idea of clean XP installation.
    Thanks.
PS. Why is a Malware Analyst looking at this? , am I missing something?

That error message is very characteristic for an infection, but I can't see how we can do anything about it, since the computer are in the middle of installing Windows.

Thanks Bruni, wondered why I could not, with the help of Windowsbbs members, get on top of this. The IT firm has 'Logged' our complaint into 'THE system' not a lot of hope there then. Will keep you informed.
    And thanks again.

For your current info re 'Application Error', situation Resolved, IT man swapped no 4 PC, the one with Application Error, with one without, no 4 now has Windows XP Pro and not Windows 2000, as it should have done.
Man said Application Error is fault of old Windows 2000?. As a parting shot I put Stinger on it and got 600+ viruses. working ok as from Friday start another week Monday!
Marked this Resolved, not holding breath, thanks all.
