At start up i get a message from apoint.exe that says unable to load dll. I can't run internet explorer or instant messenger, and I don't know how to fix it. I tried running AutoRuns by Microsoft, but it didn't change anything. Also, last night I downloaded itunes, if that makes a difference. I don't get the message at start up every time, but some of my programs aren't working. Do you have any tips for me to get my computer back to normal? Thanks.

ilg - Welcome to the Board :)

apoint.exe is a component of the drivers for the Alps Touchpad so I presume you are running a laptop. I suggest you reload the drivers for the touchpad as a first step.
Can you fill out some detail here - this would seem to be unrelated to your touchpad problems.

Hi Pete, thanks for your help. I am running a laptop, and I'm having no problems using my touchpad. I installed itunes last night to move music from my ipod to my laptop, but I didn't change any settings or download anything other than itunes. This morning when I rebooted my computer, internet explorer and instant messenter (both of which I use every day) no longer would load, and I saw the message apoint.exe failed to load dll. You suggested that I reload the drivers for the touchpad. Do you still recommend this? How would I go about doing that? I'm a bit of a novice with technology :) Thanks again!

The logic of this situation is that iTunes - with which I am not familiar (being one of the few people who do not posess an iPod :)) has affected your system.

My strong inclination would be to uninstall iTunes and see if the problem is resolved. If it is try another install.

If the problem remains after uninstalling iTunes I would consider a System Restore to a point prior to installing iTunes.

Thanks Pete. I'll try uninstalling iTunes later on to see if that fixes the problem. I found a website last night that helped me load all of my music from my ipod onto itunes on this laptop. the old computer that i used to hold my itunes on crashed. i suppose that itunes may be causing these problems. though i still don't know why itunes would be affecting apoint.exe which apparently has to do with my touchpad. anyway, thanks again, and maybe we'll be in touch again soon (if this doesn't work!)

I am having the same issue as ilg, but it has nothing to do with itunes. My touchpad is not working properly. I cannot scroll with it and when I tap the corners of it it does not bring up the things that I have it programmed to bring up. Other than those issues it works fine. I also believe that my IE is messed up. I have Yahoo toolbar and it usually tells me if I have a new message and it no longer does that and it will occassionally flash. I hope I don't have to wipe my computer:(

The Yahoo toolbar has been known to cause problems in the past - uninstall it and see if the problem is resolved.

If not uninstall the touchpad drivers - ususlly Synaptics and download another copy and install.
