My son received an instant message via aol who is not on his buddy list. I have the screen name and time of the instant message. Does anyone know how I can identify who this person is and where it came from? The instant message was from helen54321050353 and the message read vote for me. When you click on the word vote, a porno site comes up. Please help!

I am also getting those kind of e-mails .

But I use Eudora and I check my mail with MailWasher first and can get rid of anything that has a suspicious look it.

I am also getting so called returned mail from addresses that I have no idea who they are let alone sent mail to.

I also have a Niece that is using AIM on one of my machines. If she keeps getting the trash that she is then AIM will be kicked off the machine.

And like yourelf some of it is coming from others that she has no idea who they are.

This isn't through email, it's american on line instant messaging. Does anyone know how I can find out where it came from?

I do realize that you refer to AIM.

But I also refer to my Neice getting the trash in AIM also.

And I just mentioned that I was also getting it in regular e-mail. But I can get rid of it there before downloading. While I can't in AIM.

Somewhere, somehow there may be a connection.

Take a look at Annoying Adware: AOL Instant Messenger (SM). Have no experience with this solution, but you can check it out. Works on older versions of AIM, not newer, so check your version release. Will post if I find more solutions.

Update .... PLEASE read the entire page... more than one solution

Your welcome, hope it helps you out. If you take some of the options of editing program files.... best to back them up before you make the changes. Let us know if they reduced or resolved the problem.

now on the market are some SOHO firewall appliances which may indirectly assist you. Whereas they do not yet provide IM content filtering you can at least limit the time spent using IM clinets. Offhand I believe either the NetGear FM114P or their bundled DSL/Cable modem firewall appliance.

oh and I belive there's a handful of monitoring programs, now that I think of it, that allow you to block communications from particular users and your kids, but again no real time content filtering.

a quick google search turned up

    http://www.1spysoftware.com/chatblocker.shtml

which is not exactly what you wanted but should steer you in the right direction

    hope this helps
