A number of our users are complaining that email that they send to an AOL account is being returned or they are getting delay notifications. I spoke to our ISP and they said that a lot of people are complaining about AOL problems. Is anyone else having a problem with AOL email?

I am using Exchange 2000 on a Windows 2000 advanced server.

    Thanks

    Sue

I have had the same problem from time to time - usually I just get the delay messages, but sometimes I subsequently also get an actual failure-to-deliver message. Happens most consistenly with AOL, though I've had it happen with cs.com (compuserve?) addresses as well.
Usually the occurrence is sporadic in nature, as far as I can tell. Once the problem lasted for nearly 36 hours, to the point that I ended up emailing all my AOL friends from a yahoo.com address, asking them to make sure I wasn't on a block list of theirs or something!
Never have found out WHY this happens, so I can't help you there - but at least you know you're not alone. I'll be curious to follow this thread and see if someone might indeed have an answer for you/us!
    Good luck,
    Rebecca

We have been having this problem for about 2 weeks now. The mail is actually being returned. Our users are very frustrated, but there doesn't seem an answer.

Does anyone know how I contact AOL to trouble shoot the problem.

    Thanks

    IMHO,
The only contact I would have w/ AOL is to cancel their services. There are lots of ISPs that do a better job, have a better price, and don't censor mail, or force users to cut&paste links. Do a search on the BBS for AOL (or AOHell) and read a long litany of complaints. They seem to be unresponsive to their customers. If you do cancel, be careful. They have a reputation for billing long after they are "fired ".

Good luck with Customer Service...let us know if they resolve your problems or not.

AOL has a rather restrictive spam filter. If you're not on AOL but, rather, are sending to AOL addresses, it's likely the messages are being stopped by AOL's spam filter. Evidently, the domain the messages are coming from (yours) got on AOL's list as a source of spam.

If you're using an ISP, they'll have to contact AOL to try to get off their list.

If you are running your own email servers with your own domain name, this AOL page will give you a place to start to find out who to contact to see about getting your domain off of AOL's list.
