I'm trying to send a .jpg file to a friend of mine who has a Dell machine with XP. When he opens the file (it default opens with something called Dell Image Expert), it's at only at 25% size (but he can view it at 100% with the zoom). However, he can't print it at 100% as he wants to, it only comes out at 25%. So what does he do? (I obviously don't have Dell). If he can't print it at 100%, how can he open it in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer? (When he right clicks on the file, he gets very few choices, none of which are "Open With ".) Sorry, I haven't a clue about how those Dell machines work. Thnx

Dell's work just like any other pc. He should be able to adjust the print size within the printing software.

Sounds like XP-home if there is no 'open with' option when he right-clicks.

Also sounds like he has the Windows Picture Viewer and would be happier using it - or some other picture viewing/editing app that is better behaved.

Easiest way I can think of to change the default for picture handling on the PC is a two parter.

Click on start, on run, key in cmd and OK. Once the cmd window opens, have him break the current association so that next time he tries to open a picture, the PC won't know what program to use and will ask him to choose with an option to make that choice the default. This is done by typing in

ASSOC .ext= (where .ext is the extension) and pressing ENTER so that
ASSOC .jpg= <ENTER> will clear .jpg files.
Probably also good to do the other common picture formats so

    ASSOC .jpg=
    ASSOC .gif=
    ASSOC .bmp=
    ASSOC .tif=

Note that like with most XP things, there are quite a few different ways to clear the association but this is the simplest I think.

Thanks for the input...somehow that Dell software has control of everything, incl print size. Solution was to "Save" the attachment (rather than just opening it), and then he got the full rt-clk set of options, including Open With. It may be caused by him using Outlook Express as an E-Mail client....I use Eudora, and Save is automatic....evidently it's not in OE.
