I have contacted my ISP and they claim it's an XP and Outlook 6 problem and they claim you have to edit the registry, but I'm not going there without some specific instructions. Anyone have a clue?

I'm running Windows XP professional with Outlook Express 6.

I tried to follow the directions given at that link, but under the "edit" menu there is no option for "permissions ", I tried to just delete the folder and file under "Protected Storage System Provider" and it won't allow me to. I am the system administrator so that's not the problem. Any suggestions?

    I'll try?
You've got to.......: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider ........correct?
You've got Protected Storage System Provider highlighted on the left........... correct?
Go to the top of the window where it says File.....then edit......View.......etc.
When you click on edit......are you given the choice of permissions?

Argh. She's back  So, I can only assume that there was no truth in the rumour that you perished during the harsh Canadian winter after (somehow) having managed to freeze your tongue to an exterior door handle?

Believe it or not, I don't have an option for "File ", at the top I have "Registry" "Edit" "View" "Help" That's it and there is not option for "Permissions" Under Edit. Here's a screenshot of what I have...

Outlook XP does not save password

I have followed the instructions assiduously. Works fine for a while, but if I reboot, the situation reverts: I am prompted to re-enter my password by Outlook.

By the way, under Users, I see displayed both an Administrator and myself as current user. I have tried highlighting and changing both the Administrator settings and my own. In any case, there is only one user sub-key number to delete at the end of the process, which I dutifully delete. Yet it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Reboot, and I am back to square one.

More on Outlook not saving Password

I note that when one is asked to "select the Replace permissision entries" box, no mention is made as to whether or not to de-select the "Inherit..." box which is, apparently by default, selected.

Is one supposed to leave the "Inherit ..." box checked?

    Thanks for the help.

    So sorry about that canecop
I forgot to come back and check on you. I've found another possible solution. See if it makes a difference? In the meanwhile, I'll go figure out why your regedit is different.

    Back again.
Seems, that others think your regedit is as odd as I do.
    Here's the first suggestion:
Get the XP CD handy and go to Start>Run and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. That'll replace any missing or corrupt system files.

Daizy, I appreciate all the help, but nothing seems to be working, I put my CD in and ran what you said and it went fine but I still can not delete the entry. It says "error while deleting key ". I even tried to start in safe mode and try deleting it that way and no luck, I can't get to my email no matter what. Any other suggestions?

It may be time to run a repair. Do you have the XP CD? Have you done one before?
