I help moderate on several web sites that use forums and this week has seen a surge in registrations from several countries known for hacking. Various off the wall advertisements being posted, the usual "enhancements" nonsense and all that.

It make me think the U.S. experiencing a cyber attack, or something.

Can anyone shed light on this?

Don't know for sure if I have this in the right place, but Security seemed like the correct general direction...

I post on eight different sites...One has been hit hard with **** in the past week.

I doubt there is any sort of world wide conspiracy going on…Just random luck.

Couple of the sites I post on have good rules and such in place via options built into vBulletin…Any member with less then 10 posts AND have a url in their post get filtered and a mod must approve the posts before the public can view them.

    Thanks for the feedback.

On two of the boards where I hang out I am the Admin, and on the other I'm on the moderator's team. On one of them that was a mostly public board I had to all but shut down registrations with all members at present requiring Admin approval before the account can be activated.

It has been obvious that something is afoot. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people in cyber space with entirely too much spare time on their hands.
